فرانک آنتونی ویلچک (به انگلیسی: Frank Anthony Wilczek)‏ (زاده ۱۵ مه ۱۹۵۱) دانشمند آمریکایی فیزیک نظری است و از برندگان جایزهٔ نوبل فیزیک.

ویلچک به همراه دیوید گراس و دیوید پولیتزر جایزهٔ نوبل فیزیک سال ۲۰۰۴ را از آن خود کرد. آن‌ها این جایزه را برای کشف آزادی مجانبی در نیروی هسته‌ای قوی دریافت کردند.

مطالعات

ویلچک که دانشجوی دکتری دیوید گراس در دانشگاه پرینستون بود، در سال ۱۹۷۳ مدرک خود را دریافت کرد. او در آن دوران موفق به کشف آزادی مجانبی شد به این معنی که هرآنچه کوارک‌ها به یکدیگر نزدیک تر باشند، به همان اندازه نیروی هسته‌ای قوی میان آن‌ها کمتر خواهد شد. اگر کوارک‌ها به یکدیگر بسیار نزدیک شوند نیروی هسته‌ای میان آن‌ها بسیار ضعیف خواهد شد، در این صورت می‌توان گفت که آن‌ها تقریبا مانند ذرات آزاد عمل می‌کنند. این تئوری که به صورت جداگانه از سوی دیوید پولیتزر نیز بدست آمده بود در پیشرفت کرومودینامیک کوانتومی بسیار موثر بود.

همچنین ویلپک در کشف و توسعهٔ آکسیون، آنیون، آزادی مجانبی، فازهای ابررسانایی رنگی و دیگر بخش‌های نظریهٔ میدان‌های کوانتومی همکاری کرده‌است. ویلچک در بحث‌های گوناگون و البته غیرمعمولی از فیزیک، از فیزیک مادهٔ چگال تا اخترفیزیک و فیزیک ذرات کار کرده‌است.
