دوگلاس مورتون دنلپ

دوگلاس مورتون دنلپ (۱۹۰۹–۱۹۸۷) خاورشناس و محقق مشهور بریتانیایی در تاریخ اسلام و اوراسیا بود.
اوان زندگی و تحصیل
[ویرایش]دنلپ در انگلستان متولد شد. در بن و آکسفورد زیر نظر مورخ پل ارنست کاله (۱۸۷۵–۱۹۶۵) تحصیل کرد. آثار او همچنین تحت تأثیر دانشمندانی مانند زکی ولیدی طوغان، میخائیل آرتمانوف و جورج ورنادسکی قرار گرفت. عموی او بی کی کانینگهام، کشیش انگلیسی و دانشگاهی بود.[۱]
کار تخصصی
[ویرایش]در دهه ۱۹۵۰ و ۱۹۶۰، دنلپ استاد تاریخ در دانشگاه کلمبیا در نیویورک بود. او بیشتر به خاطر تاریخهای تأثیرگذارش راجع به تمدن عرب و خاقان خزر شناخته شده است. دنلپ «ارزشمندترین محقق سلطنت خزر» بود. او به بسیاری از زبانهای مورد نیاز برای مطالعه خزرها تسلط داشت.[۲]
