بازیگر آمریکایی بروس ویلیس حرفه‌اش را در سال ۱۹۸۰ و با نقش سیاهی‌لشکر در اولین گناه کبیره آغاز کرد. پس از حضور به عنوان بازیگر مهمان در یک اپیزود از میامی وایس در سال ۱۹۸۴، او در اولین اپیزود منطقه نیمه‌روشن در سال ۱۹۸۵ ایفای نقش کرد. ویلیس به خاطر ایفای نقش در مجموعه کمدی-درام شبکه ای‌بی‌سی به نام مون‌لایتینگ به شهرت رسید و به خاطرش سه نامزدی در مراسم جوایز گلدن گلوب برای بهترین بازیگر مرد – مجموعه تلویزیونی موزیکال یا کمدی و دو نامزدی جایزه امی ساعات پربیننده برای بهترین بازیگر نقش اول مرد در مجموعه تلویزیونی درام به دست آورد.[۱][۲] در سال ۱۹۸۸، او نقش جان مک‌کلین در جان‌سخت، فیلمی که بعداً چهار دنباله برای آن ساخته شد، ایفا کرد و باعث شناخته شدن ویلیس به صورت بین‌المللی به عنوان یک قهرمان اکشن شد.[۳]
