وی در ۱۹۵۵ در [[]] به دنیا آمد و از دانشگاه دولتی ایروان (۱۹۷۷–۱۹۷۲) فارغ‌التحصیل شد. وی همچنین برندهٔ جوایزی همچون [[]] شده‌است.

From 1977 to 1980 she was a research assistant at the Institute of Literature of the Armenian Academy of Sciences(⎘ فرهنگستان ملی علوم ارمنستان). From 1978 to 1985 she completed doctoral studies on a research scholarship at the Institute of World Literature of the then USSR Academy of Sciences(⎘ آکادمی علوم روسیه) in the Department of Ancient Literature under Sergei Averintsev.

In 1984 and 1985 she completed the preliminary defense of her dissertation in Moscow and finally received her doctorate at the Tbilisi State University(⎘ دانشگاه دولتی تفلیس) under Akaki W. Urushadze on the subject of “The comparative poetics of hymnographic genres in Greek-Byzantine and ancient Armenian literature”. From 1985, Drost-Abgarjan moved to the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg(⎘ دانشگاه هاله-ویتنبرگ) (MLU). There she was initially a research assistant and then an assistant (C 1) and - until 2010 - senior assistant (C 2) at the Oriental Institute of the MLU (Seminar of the Christian Orient and Byzantium). In 2003 she completed her habilitation in Halle with a work on the Armenian hymnarium Scharaknoz in the subject areas of “ Science of the Christian Orient with special consideration of Armenology”. Since September 2010 she has been a DAAD visiting professor for Armenology at the Christian Orient Seminar at the Oriental Institute of MLU. At the same time, she is acting director of the MESROP Center for Armenian Studies.
