English: The steamship Somerset. Built in New York in 1863 as Nereus, the ship was requisitioned by the United States Navy while still under construction and completed as a gunboat, serving in the American Civil War as USS Nereus. After the war, the vessel was sold, and entered merchant service as the steamship Somerset, first in transatlantic service and later in American East Coast and United States – Canadian service. The ship was broken up in 1887.
