Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Clerk note: Please note that accounts cannot be deleted. Alternatively, please see the note on vanishing below. --JustBerry (talk) 15:39, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Is this a request for courtesy vanishing—meaning you intend never to edit the English Wikipedia again—or are you just wanting to abandon this account? Please note that returning after exercising courtesy vanishing may be met with automatic relinking of the new account with the old one. If you are just interested in retiring, an extended vacation, or are considering a clean start in the future, placing {{retired}} on your user and/or talk page(s) and abandoning the account is the better option. --JustBerry (talk) 15:39, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not done No response; no edits since filing request. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 12:42, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Markpigeault → markpigeault

Robot clerk note: I have detected the following problems:
  • The requested username is the same as your current name, aside from the first letter being in lowercase. Due to technical limitations, usernames must start with an uppercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • The requested username is already registered; see Special:Listusers. Please choose another name that does not appear on that list.
  • There is already a global account registered for Markpigeault.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 21:00, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Markpigeault: As the bot says above, due to the mediawiki's technical restriction, username always starts with uppercase. — regards, Revi 03:39, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Naila Khan Alizai5 → Naila Khan

Renamer note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. Please choose another name which is not already in use. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 12:41, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah it is. But that account was also registered by me. The account has not any content etc. Is it possible to vanish that and rename this one? Naila Khan Alizai5 (talk) 14:11, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Naila Khan Alizai5: If you own the other account, please log in to that account and leave a message here confirming that it is you. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 17:49, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The password of that account has forgotten by me. And I also put a request for deletion of that account. I tried for it but in vain. Just rename it Please, Nothing else. Naila Khan Alizai5 (talk) 18:54, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Naila Khan Alizai5: We can usurp the username for you, but since we have no way of verifying that you are the owner of the username, you'll need to file a request for usurpation on this page. Remember to notify the target user on their home wiki talk page about the request (You can use Template:Usurpation requested for this). After that, there's a minimum one month waiting period before we can process the request. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 23:48, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Leave it. It takes time. I've chosen another name. Rename it please. Naila Khan Alizai5 (talk) 07:18, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Renamer note: According to our records, it looks like you have been renamed before in the past. Please note that username changes take up valuable server resources and are not something to be treated lightly. Are you sure you still wish to proceed? —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 03:46, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, as I said, It'll be my last time requesting a name change. Craig (talk) 03:50, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
