It creates a navigation box with links to other years.

No parameters are required, but they can be specified if needed. If parameters are omitted, the category name is parsed.

Errors

If the category name does not include "YYYY Summer Olympics", then the navbox cannot be made unless parameters are supplied.

If then navbox cannot be made, an error message is produced, and the page is added to a tracking category:

• Category:Template Summer Olympics by year category navigation failed to make navbox (population: ۰)
