قرقیزها گروهی از مردم ترک تبار که در کشورهای آسیای میانه زندگی میکنند، قرقیزستان موطن قرقیزها و قرقیزی زبان آنان به شمار میرود. اکثریت قرقیزها را مسلمانان اهل سنت تشکیل میدهد.[۵]
نام
[ویرایش]در فارسی دری در افغانستان گاهی بهصورت قرغیز نیز نوشته میشود.
در متون کهن پارسی بهصورت خِرخیز نیز نامیده شده است:
ز خرخیز و از چاچ و از کاشغر | بسی پهلوان خواند زرین کمر[۶]
